Organic fungicide Howler headed to Mexico

AgBiome’s organic fungicide Howler will be developed for Mexican agriculture under an agreement recently inked with another company.

AgBiome Innovations , which is the commercial arm of AgBiome, and Sumitomo Corporation recently announced a joint agreement for the development, registration and commercialization of Howler in the crop and non-crop agriculture markets in Mexico, according to a news release. The development and commercialization activities will be conducted by Summit Agro Mexico S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation.

AgBiome Innovations Chief Operating Officer Toni Bucci said in a news release that Summit Agro Mexico will work closely with AgBiome Innovations during the registration and product launch.

Howler is listed with the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) as a fungicide. In the U.S., it is used on a variety of vegetable crops in addition to small fruit such as caneberries, strawberries and grapes.

Howler “harnesses the power of the plant microbiome to create an efficacious fungicide with multiple modes of action that provide preventive, long-lasting activity on a broad spectrum of soilborne and foliar diseases,” according to AgBiome. It’s marketed as being effective “at every phase of production: greenhouse, planting, early plants, maturing plants, harvest and post-harvest applications.”

Under the agreement, Summit Agro Mexico S.A. de CV. will develop the completed registration for Howler fungicide in Mexico for use in crop and non-crop segments. Also, Summit Agro Mexico S.A. de C.V. will have certain rights to distribute Howler Fungicide for crop protection applications in Mexico.
