USApple storage report shows continued decrease

National U.S. apple storage continues to decrease.
On March 11, the U.S. Apple Association via its USAppleTracker report reported the total number of apples in storage on March 1 was 113 million bushels, 5% less than last March’s total of 118 million bushels and 13% higher than the 5-year average for that date.
Fresh apple holdings this March totaled 81 million bushels, 4% less than the inventories reported for last March and 14% more than the March five-year average.

Processing holdings totaled 32 million bushels, 7% less than last year on March 1 and 9% more than the March five-year average.
Six of the seven top apple producing states – Washington, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Virginia and Oregon – reported decreasing storage volume for the time period.
Washington and New York saw storage increases, while the other major producing states, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon and California, as well all other smaller producing states except for New Hampshire and Ohio, saw storage declines.
