Deadline extended: USDA moves SDRP due date to Aug. 12
Disaster relief payments for 2023–24 losses increase to 70% coverage. Growers are encouraged to check eligibility and submit or update applications by Aug. 12.
USDA is issuing a second round of Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) direct payments to growers impacted in 2023–24 by weather-related losses. The agency is also extending the application window, so producers now have until Aug. 12, 2026, to apply or update SDRP applications.
The additional payments also raise the program’s payment factor from 35% to 70%, effectively doubling the level of assistance for eligible losses already approved under SDRP.
The program, administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), covers losses tied to drought, wildfire, hurricanes, floods, freeze events and other extreme weather in 2023 and 2024. More than $6.7 billion has already been distributed, according to a USDA news release.
SDRP is structured in two stages:
- Stage 1 supports growers who received crop insurance indemnities or Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) payments.
- Stage 2 addresses uncovered losses, including shallow or uninsured losses and quality-related impacts.
Drought eligibility is based on U.S. Drought Monitor classifications. Those guidelines generally require extended periods of severe (D2) conditions or worse, according to the press release.
Growers in Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine and Massachusetts are not eligible for SDRP payments, as those states are using separate disaster block grant programs.
