2010 Orchard and Vineyard Show Jan. 19-20

The 2010 Orchard and Vineyard Show is scheduled for Jan. 19-20, and will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Mich. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and is $30 at the door and covers both days. The Fruit Industry Luncheon will be held on Tuesday the 19th, and the cost is $15. The Cherry Marketing Institute’s (CMI) luncheon on Wednesday is free to growers that register with CMI. The CMI annual report will be held on Wednesday morning and the exhibit hall will be open during the show and will feature vendors of orchard and vineyard equipment as well as supplies, commodity organizations and other exhibitors.

Bob Bors, assistant professor and head of the fruit program at the University of Saskatchewan, will be sharing his expertise in dwarf tart cherry production and new harvesting technologies. Additionally, Michigan State University experts and Extension personnel will be on hand to present the results of their latest research and answer questions concerning the obstacles facing tree fruit growers today. There will be a concurrent winegrape session on Tuesday including a panel discussion of how to best manage winegrapes during a challenging season like 2009. We will also get an update on fungicide sensitivity of powdery mildew. A wine tasting and hors d’oeuvre social hour will follow the educational sessions on Tuesday.
