Fresh apple holdings at 100.2 million bushels, 2.6% less than 2020

The U.S. Apple Association has released a revised version of the latest USApple Tracker report.

This revised version corrects for significantly overstated processing holdings. While the fresh holdings number did change slightly, the difference is minimal.

According to the survey, the total number of apples in storage on Dec. 1, 2021, was 144.4 million bushels, 1.6% less than last December’s total of 146.8 million bushels and 6.8% below the 5-year average for that date.

Fresh apple holdings on this December, totaled 100.2 million bushels, 2.6% less than the inventories reported for last December. Processing holdings totaled 44.2 million bushels, 0.6% more than last year on Dec. 1.

This report captures more than 95% of the national storage capacity, according to Christopher Gerlach, director, industry Analytics, U.S. Apple Association.
