Marathon finishers to receive Michigan apples

Michigan apples will be distributed at the finish line of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the second year. The Michigan Apple Committee (MAC) is a sponsor of the marathon, which takes place on Sunday, October 8.

“We want to continue to encourage healthy living as much as possible, and Michigan Apples boast an extensive number of health benefits,” said Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee. “At the finish line of the race, just as last year, participants willbe handed a Michigan Apple to refuel their bodies.”

The 2018 Michigan Apple Queen, Hannah Rasch, will congratulate each finisher with an apple.

“The partnership with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is significant for Michigan Apples for a number of reasons,” said Smith. “Reaching and maintaining the Chicago market continues to be key for us, and, reaching out to consumers who have an interest in a healthy lifestyle is also important.”

More than 40,000 runners are expected to participate in the 40th running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Runners will be traveling to Chicago from over 100 countries and all 50 states. In 2016, there were an estimated 1.7 million spectators lining the streets from the starting line to the finish line, according to chicagomarathon.com.
