Michigan processing apple prices announced

On Aug. 29, the Michigan Processing Apple Growers Marketing Committee announced that it had negotiated the following minimum processing apple prices with a handful of processors for the 2011 crop:

• Jonathan (2.5 inches and up) – $14/cwt.
• JonaGold, Ida Red and Crispin (2.5 inches and up) – $13.25/cwt.
• Spy (2.5 inches and up) – $12.25/cwt.
• Hard varieties, including Rome and Golden (2.5 inches and up) – $12.25/cwt.
• Soft varieties (2.5 inches and up) – $10.25 /cwt.
• Straight loads of juice apples – $7.50/cwt.
• Under 2.5 inches in peeler loads – $6.50/cwt.

The processors who agreed with the above minimum prices are Coloma Frozen Foods, Gerber Products Co. and Peterson Farms. Aseltine Cider Co. agreed with the minimum $7.50/cwt. juice apple price, according to the marketing committee.
