“Greg’s industry background in agriculture and biological startups makes him a perfect fit for our board,” Brent Smith, NewLeaf’s CEO and president, said in a news release. “We look forward to his guidance as we enter our next phase of rapid growth.”

Thompson has held executive leadership roles at companies including PureField Ingredients, White Energy, Verdesian Life Sciences, and Nufarm.

He also serves on the boards of Custom Agronomics and My Yield. Thompson holds a B.S. from Penn State University and has completed executive education at Harvard Business School.

Earlier this year, NewLeaf introduced a bioinsecticide to combat corn rootworm larvae.

Thompson’s experience is expected to help expand the reach of this and other NewLeaf innovations.

The company focuses on tomatoes, peanuts, soybeans and field corn.
