USApple: Total number of apples in storage 15% above last year

U.S. Apple Association has released its January 2020 edition of Market NewsThis is the second report on the 2019 apple crop.

According to the survey, this year’s fresh apple holdings on Jan. 1, 2020, totaled 104.0 million bushels, 14% greater than the inventories reported for Jan. 1 of last year. 

Processing holdings totaled 40.1 million bushels, 18% greater than last year on Jan. 1.  The total number of apples in storage on Jan. 1, 2020, was 144.1 million bushels, 15% greater than last January’s total of 125.0 million bushels and 3% above the five-year average for that date.
