USApple: Total number of apples in storage on March 1 is 8% less than year ago

The U.S. Apple Association’s March 2021 edition of Market News has been released.

This is the fifth report on the 2020 apple crop. According to the survey, this year’s fresh apple holdings on March 1, 2021, totaled 65.9 million bushels, 11.5% less than the inventories reported for March 1 of last year.

Processing holdings totaled 29.2 million bushels, 1.1% more than last year on March 1. The total number of apples in storage on March 1, 2021, was 95.0 million bushels, 8% less than last March’s total of 103.2 million bushels and 1.5% below the 5-year average for that date.

This report captures 97% of the national storage capacity, according to Christopher Gerlach, director, industry analytics, U.S. Apple Association.
