USHBC names new class of blueberry industry leadership fellows

The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) has announced the fourth cohort of fellows selected for its Blueberry Industry Leadership Program, an initiative designed to develop emerging leaders across the blueberry supply chain.

Launched in 2022, the program provides participants with leadership training, industry education and networking opportunities aimed at preparing the next generation of industry leaders. This year’s class includes 11 professionals representing diverse sectors of the global blueberry industry.

During the 15-month program, fellows will participate in an immersive curriculum that includes industry-focused travel, virtual learning sessions, leadership development training, networking opportunities and a capstone project.

The Class 4 fellows are:

• Laina Gray, Sales and Product Specialist, Oxbo International
• Logan Hart, Blueberry Field and Quality Assurance Specialist, California Giant Berry Farms
• Scott Herron, Grower Support, Fall Creek Farm & Nursery
• Mark Lemke, Blueberry Product Manager, Sun Belle LLC
• Doug Rombach, Senior Procurement Strategy Coordinator, North Bay Produce
• Abigail Sakuma, Sales Operations Manager, Sakuma Brothers Farm
• Christian Shehadey, Sales Representative/Account Manager, Family Tree Farms
• Fletcher Simmons, Operations Manager, Straughn Farms
• Madison Thelen, Product Manager, Naturipe Farms

The leadership program was developed by the USHBC Industry Engagement Committee and Amanda Griffin, USHBC vice president of engagement and education. The program continues to receive foundational support from sponsor Fall Creek.

According to USHBC, the program has become a cornerstone of leadership development for the blueberry sector, helping connect rising professionals with industry leaders while building skills needed to address future challenges and opportunities.

Applications for class 5 will open in fall 2027.
