Sym-Agro introduces KitoGard for nematode and root disease control
Sym-Agro KitoGard nematicide helps fruit and nut growers control nematodes and boost root health. Learn more about the new solution
Developed for fruit and nut growers, KitoGard offers a biodegradable, MRL-exempt alternative to synthetic chemistries, with broad-spectrum protection and soil health benefits, according to a news release.
KitoGard works by disrupting nematodes, fungi, bacteria and viruses through direct contact and by activating the plant’s own defense mechanisms, a process known as systemic acquired resistance (SAR). The product is designed to improve plant vigor, reduce disease pressure and increase yields across all crop types.
KitoGard is powered by chitosan, a natural biochemical compound derived using a biological/enzymatic deacetylation process. With a high degree of deacetylation (95%) and medium-to-low molecular weight, the formulation is designed for maximum efficacy and ease of use.

- Direct interference with nematode feeding and reproduction
- Activation of plant defenses to kill nematodes inside root tissue
- Enhancement of beneficial soil microbes that suppress nematode populations
This multi-pronged mode of action is especially important in managing nematodes in perennial cropping systems.
KitoGard also promotes root development by enhancing nutrient uptake and supporting beneficial microorganisms in the soil. According to Sym-Agro, growers using KitoGard can expect stronger root systems, healthier plants and improved crop resilience.
The product can be applied through soil drench, chemigation, drip, micro emitters or foliar spray, offering flexibility across different farming systems. It is labeled for use on all crops and targets a range of soilborne pests and pathogens, including nematodes, bacteria, fungi and oomycetes, as well as viruses.
