The latest U.S. apple storage numbers show apple storage continuing later in the season than reported in earlier years.

The Aug. 1 survey reports the total number of apples in storage at 25 million bushels. Fresh apple holdings in August totaled 18.2 million bushels, with processing holdings totaling 6.5 million bushels, according to USApple.

The report is different because USApple in the past didn’t record storage data after June and this year didn’t have season to season data for comparison, said Chris Gerlach, vice president of insights & analytics. USApple releases monthly apple holdings reports via its USAppleTracker survey.

The August total storage number is smaller than July’s 39 million bushels and June’s 54 million bushels, with fresh apple holdings in July at 29 million bushels and processing holdings at 11 million bushels.

By way of comparison, the leading U.S. apple states typically produce 269 million bushels of apples a year.

The report captures more than 95% of the national storage capacity.

USApple plans to release its estimate for the 2025-26 season on Aug. 15 as part of the USApple Outlook conference in Chicago.
