Agritourism operators sought for national survey

The deadline has been extended for participation in an agritourism survey.

Agritourism operators are being encouraged to participate in a national survey on agritourism operations.

The University of Vermont (UVM) is conducting a survey to assess how and why agricultural operations welcome visitors and identify opportunities for support.

The survey plans to query operators of these types of agritourism businesses:

• Farms
• Farmstands
• U-picks
• Vineyards
• Ranches
• Agroforestry
• Aquaculture
• Tours
• Overnight stays
• Tastings
• Events
• Community supported agriculture (CSA)
• Hunting

The survey follows up on a short survey UVM conducted in the fall of 2024 to count agricultural operations open to visitors. The new poll goes into more detail on products, activities and other topics, according to a news release.

The survey is expected to take around 25 minutes to complete. At the end, participants will have the option to enter a random prize drawing to win one of 20 $75 gift certificates. All identifying information will be kept confidential, according to the release.

“Help us help your agritourism operation be more successful,” survey promoters said in the release. “Please complete this survey if you have visitors to your agricultural operation … and open your business to visitors in any other way. The survey’s results will be used to develop tools and resources to increase the success of agricultural operations that offer on-site direct sales, education, recreation, entertainment, hospitality and other types of agritourism.”
