Lake County North Coast pear meeting planned in California

The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) invites growers and others involved in the North Coast pear industry to attend the 2019 North Coast Pear Research Meeting to be held Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Mendocino County Agricultural Center, 890 N. Bush Street, Ukiah, California. The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Topics will include a Mendocino County Laws and Regulation update, disease management (fire blight, breeding for oak root fungus resistance), insect management (brown marmorated stinkbug), propagation of pear germplasm for rootstock breeding, , high density orchard systems, mechanical mass harvesting, and cover crop effects on root systems and organic matter in organic orchards.

The meeting is sponsored by UCCE, California Pear Advisory Board (CPAB), Pear Pest Management Research Fund and Mendocino County Department of Agriculture. There is no registration fee and refreshments and lunch will be provided courtesy of CPAB. The agenda and directions to the meeting site can be viewed here.
