Cherry Industry Administrative Board seeks nominees

The Cherry Industry Administrative Board (CIAB) is seeking nominations for four open board member positions and their respective alternates.

These seats on the CIAB are up for election this winter for three-year terms beginning July 1:

  • Northern Michigan — One handler member and alternate
  • Central Michigan — One handler member and alternate
  • Southern Michigan —  One handler Member and alternate
  • Public One member and alternate

“Your nominations and votes are important to the industry,” according to a CIAB news release. “Please watch for election materials which will be emailed to growers and handlers starting the week of Jan. 29. If your email is not on file with the CIAB, materials will be sent to you via regular mail. The entire board election process is currently scheduled to be completed by late March. We look forward to your participation in the election of CIAB representatives.”

Cherry Industry Administrative Board CIABNominees for the public board positions are prohibited from having any financial interest in the cherry industry, according to the release.

Established in 1997, the CIAB is the administrative arm of the Federal Marketing Order for U.S. tart cherries. Comprised of growers and processors in Michigan, Utah, Oregon, Washington, New York, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the CIAB educates consumers about the taste and benefits of consuming tart cherries.
