Group recognizes highly-cited MSU entomology professor

Rufus Isaacs, a professor of entomology at Michigan State University, has been recognized by Clarivate Analytics through its Highly Cited Researchers List for 2022.

The honor identifies individuals across the globe who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their fields of research over the past decade, according to a news release.

Isaacs focuses research on insect ecology and behavior to develop insect pest management practices for sustainable crop production, mostly for berries and grapes, according to his MSU website profile. His Extension program is primarily in berry crop pest management, emphasizing development of decision tools, conservation practices and research-based recommendations to support integrated pest management programs.

In recent years, his focus has been on spotted wing Drosphila in Michigan. His research supports pest management in Michigan berry crops through the development of monitoring, biocontrol and cultural control tactics.

According to the report, this list is drawn from the highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in Clarivate’s Web of Science citation index. Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, highly cited researchers are 1 in 1,000, with 6,938 highly cited researchers worldwide in 2022.

Isaacs is one of 11 MSU faculty members who received the recognition this year.
