June 1 fresh apple inventories at 31.6 million bushels

According to the June 2018 edition of the U.S. Apple Association’s Market News –the last report on the 2017 apple crop  – this year’s fresh apple holdings on June 1, 2018, totaled 31.6million bushels, 24 percent more than the inventories reported for June 1 of last year. 

Processing holdings totaled  14.3 million bushels, 38 percent more than last year on June 1.  The total number of apples in storage on June 1, 2018, was 45.9 million bushels, 28 percent more than last June’s total of 35.7million bushels and 30 percent above the 5 year average for that date. 

According to Mark Seetin, USApple’s director of regulatory and industry affairs, it was the eighth and final report on the 2017 apple crop. He said the June 1 inventories, for the most part, are at historical record levels.
