Oregon State University holds vineyard mechanization webinar

Pacific Northwest wine grape growers are invited to a free webinar, “Can Mechanizing Vineyard Tasks Make you Money?” led by Clark Seavert, an Oregon State University agricultural economist.

The webinar will be held from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. on June 11, 2019.

Seavert will share his evaluation of the economic potential of mechanizing vineyard tasks in the Pacific Northwest, research that was funded directly by Washington State Wine and Oregon’s Erath Family Foundation.

He’ll discuss the upfront investment costs, economic benefits of reducing or eliminating hand labor and payback periods of mechanization. Growers learn about the results and underlying assumptions of mechanizing the tasks of pruning, shoot thinning/desuckering, leaf pulling and harvest as well as the free online decision tool AgBiz Logic and how to modify the data to make it relevant for their operation size.
