Fighting Washington fires ‘top priority’

Wildfires in Washington state have become the nation’s highest firefighting priorities, according to The Wenatchee World.

One of the fires threatened Gebbers Farms, an apple farm in Brewster, Washington, but Robert Grandy wrote to KPQ-AM, a local radio station, that it “appears that today the worst of the fire threat has passed by to the north and west of our immediate area. We will remain vigilant to face any changes in conditions, and Gebbers Farms continues to commit resources to help control and extinguish the fires in our area.”

“We were in full operation today at our orchards, warehouses and fruit shipping facilities. Many employees came to work today to harvest, transport, pack, and process this year’s cherry crop. Many employees also continued to help family and friends as a result of this disaster, and we give them our full support and understanding.”
