New label helps Michigan blueberry growers fight SWD

On July 10, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Resource Development released a Section 18 label for Gowan’s Malathion 8F for use against spotted wing drosophila in blueberries.

The label provides a use rate up to 2.5 pints per acre, rather than the 1.25 pints on the Gowan label released earlier this year. The high rate can be used twice, for a total of 5 pints per acre per season, and retains the one-day PHI. The label is effective immediately and runs until Sept. 30, according to Rufus Isaacs, an entomologist with Michigan State University.
