Fire strikes new cider producing facility in Michigan

Much of a new cider producing facility in Newaygo County, Michigan has been destroyed after an overnight fire July 4.

Crews were dispatched to Grant, Michigan at 9:34 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, to River Ridge Cider Co., which used to be Moore Farm’s Orchards Inc. on Ferris Avenue between 120th and 136th Streets.

According to media reports, the facility was all connected and was made up of two main buildings. At this point it’s unclear what started the fire or which building it started in, however no one was inside at the time.

Riveridge had expanded in the fall 2017 with the opening of Riveridge Cider Co., a 17,400-square-foot facility cold pressing and bottling blended fresh apple cider as well as varietal blends of Fuji, Gala and Honeycrisp in Grant, Michigan. The facility had become fully operational with the capacity to fill and bottle 30,000 gallons a day.
