Perdue visits Rhode Island cranberry bog

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and Chief of Agriculture Ken Ayars on Monday afternoon visited a cranberry bog at The Greene Company in Coventry, Rhode Island.

In a Twitter post, Perdue said the land was converted to cranberry bogs in 1860 and continues to produce the tart red berries – although, he noted the berries were not quite ripe yet this season.

According to farmfreshri.org, “The Greene Company is a 103-acre farm run by Gregory Underwood and Ralph Pratt,” and sells wholesale cranberries that are GAP-certified.
