Total apples in storage on May 1 down 13 percent from 2018

The U.S. Apple Association on May 7 issued its seventh report on the 2018 apple crop.

According to the survey, this year’s fresh apple holdings on May 1, 2019, totaled 38.6 million bushels, 13 percent less than the inventories reported for May 1 of last year. Processing holdings totaled 15.9 million bushels, 14 percent less than last year on May 1.

Mark Seetin, director of regulatory and industry affairs for U.S. Apple, said the total number of apples in storage on May 1, 2019, was 54.5 million bushels, 13 percent less than last May’s total of 62.7 million bushels and 2 percent below the 5-year average for that date.
