USApple: Total apples in storage 17% above 2018 levels

The December 2019 edition of the U.S. Apple Association’s Market News has been released. 

This is the second report on the 2019 apple crop – and the first edition with a newly designed format that is aimed to be more reader friendly.

According to the survey released by Mark Seetin, USApple’s director of regulatory and industry affairs, this year’s fresh apple holdings on Dec. 1, 2019, totaled 118.3million bushels, 15% greater than the inventories reported for Dec. 1 of last year. 

Processing holdings totaled 43.4 million bushels; 21% greater than last year on Dec. 1.  The total number of apples in storage on Dec. 1, 2019, was 161.7 million bushels, 17% greater than last December’s total of 138.4 million bushels and 3% above the 5-year average for that date.
