USApple: Fresh apple holdings up 21% from a year ago

The U.S. Apple Association has released its May 2020 edition of Market NewsThis is the seventh report on the 2019 apple crop.

According to the survey prepared by Mark Seetin, USApple director of regulatory and industry affairs, this year’s fresh apple holdings on May 1, 2020, totaled 46.8 million bushels, 21% greater than the inventories reported for May 1 of last year. 

Processing holdings totaled 18.4 million bushels, 18% greater than last year on May 1. 

The total number of apples in storage on May 1, 2020, was 65.2 million bushels, 20% greater than last May’s total of 54.2 million bushels and 16% above the 5-year average for that date.
