Fresh apple holdings sit at 18% less than a year ago, USApple reports

The U.S. Apple Association has released Market News, its seventh report on the 2020 apple crop.

According to the survey, this year’s fresh apple holdings on May 1, 2021, totaled 38 million bushels, 18.8% less than the inventories reported for May 1 of last year.

Processing holdings totaled 16.8 million bushels, 8.5% less than last year on May 1. The total number of apples in storage on May 1, 2021, was 54.8 million bushels, 15.9%  less than last May’s total of 65.2 million bushels and 3.3% below the 5-year average for that date.

This report captures 97% of the national storage capacity, according to Christopher Gerlach, director, industry analytics, for USApple.
