USApple: Total number of apples in storage 16.3% less than last June

The U.S. Apple Association has released its eighth report on the 2020 apple crop.

According to the survey, this year’s fresh apple holdings on June 1, 2021, totaled 27.7 million bushels, 18.8% less than the inventories reported for June 1 of last year.

Processing holdings totaled 12.4 million bushels, 10.2%  less than last year on June 1. The total number of apples in storage on June 1, 2021, was 40.1 million bushels, 16.3% less than last June’s total of 47.9 million bushels and 1.8% above the 5-year average for that date.

This report captures 97% of the national storage capacity, said Christopher Gerlach, USApple’s director of industry analytics.
