Total number of apples in storage on Jan. 1 are 7% less than 2021

The U.S. Apple Association has released its January 2022 edition of USAppleTracker.

According to the survey, the total number of apples in storage on Jan. 1, 2022, was 122.6 million bushels, 7% less than last January’s total of 131.9 million bushels and 11.5% below the 5-year average for that date.

Fresh apple holdings on this January, totaled 87.7 million bushels, 2.9% less than the inventories reported for last January. Processing holdings totaled 34.9 million bushels, 16.1% less than last year on Jan. 1.

This report captures more than 95% of the national storage capacity, according to Christopher Gerlach, USApple’s director, industry analytics.
