Total number of apples in storage on May 1 was 6.2% more than 2021

The U.S. Apple Association has released its May 2022 USAppleTracker.

According to the survey, the total number of apples in storage on May 1, 2022, was 58.2 million bushels, 6.2% more than last May’s total of 54.8 million bushels and 0.1% more than the 5-year average for that date.

Fresh apple holdings this May, totaled 41.2 million bushels, 8.5% more than the inventories reported for last May. Processing holdings totaled 17 million bushels, 1% more than last year on May 1.

Christopher Gerlach, USApple’s director of industry analytics said this report captures more than 95% of the national storage capacity.
