Apples in storage tracking about 11% higher than in 2021

There were 44.4 million bushels of apples in storage on June 1, according to the U.S. Apple Association, which is 10.7% more than a year ago.

The association’s monthly USAppleTracker report, released June 10, shows that fresh apple holdings at the beginning of the month were 32.1 million bushels. That’s almost 16% higher than a year ago and 11.1% over the five-year average, according to the report.

Apples for the processing market were at 12.3 million bushels, which is 1% down compared to last year.

Fresh apples in storage were 8.3% higher than the 5-year average, and processing apples in storage were at 1.6% high than the 5-year average for June 1, according to the report.

The report captures more than 95% of the national storage capacity, according to the association.
