Pear marketing order to have election for two seats

The Washington and Oregon pear marketing order’s Fresh Pear Committee is seeking two grower member alternates from the Wenatchee, Washington, district.

The election for the two alternates from the Wenatchee district (Chelan and Douglas counties) is at the committee’s meeting, 11 a.m. June 1 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wenatchee. Participants can also attend via videoconference.

Only fresh pear growers from the Wenatchee district are eligible to nominate and vote in the election. The positions to be filled are first alternate, currently filled by Rod Grams, and the second alternate, currently filled by Jake Carson.

Grams is eligible for re-election, but Carson is no longer an eligible grower. The USDA will make a final decision on the appointments for the two-year terms, which begin July 1.

Among other duties, the Fresh Pear Committee is responsible for setting the assessment rates for research and promotion and advertising of all pears marketed in the domestic and export markets.
