Strawberry ‘blanket’ doesn’t enthuse growers

Instead of drenching their shivering strawberries with groundwater — a practice that leaves neighborhood wells dry and yards and roads collapsing in sinkholes — farmers in Plant City and Dover are being nudged toward a new method of protecting their crops: A nice warm blanket pulled over acres of berries to keep them cozy on freezing nights.
