Bill Shane named MSU Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center Interim Coordinator

The Michigan State University Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center (SWMREC) has announced Bill Shane will be interim center coordinator effective April 1.

Shane is an MSU researcher and Extension tree fruit specialist with primary emphasis on peaches, apples, pears, plums and cherries. He has been conducting fruit research at SWMREC since 2002. He replaces Tom Zabadal, who will devote himself full-time to grape research and Extension, the SWMREC said.

Shane received a bachelor’s degree in botany and plant pathology from MSU, a master’s in plant pathology from North Carolina State University and holds a doctorate in plant pathology from the University of Minnesota.

After starting his career as an assistant professor at Ohio State University, he became an MSU Extension district educator in 1992.
