Feb. 1 apple holdings down from last year

According to the U.S. Apple Association, fresh apple holdings on Feb. 1, 2016, totaled 75.3 million bushels, 21 percent below the record inventories of 95.1 million bushels reported for 2015, and 1 percent lower than the five-year average of 76 million bushels.

Processing holdings on Feb. 1 totaled 31.7 million bushels, 21 percent below 2015 and roughly equal to the five-year average for that date.

The total number of apples in storage on Feb. 1 was 107.1 million bushels, 21 percent below last February’s record total of 135.5 million bushels, according to USApple.
