California pear meeting focuses on new pest

The University of California Cooperative Extension and California Pear Advisory Board are presenting an update on a flatheaded borer pest recently discovered in Lake County.

The meeting, 9 to 10 a.m. Pacific Oct. 17 at the Scotts Valley Women’s Club in Lakeport, California, is for growers and pest control advisors. The previously unknown flatheaded borer that’s causing damage to fruit in Lake County will be discussed.

Clebson G. Gonçalves, diversified agricultural advisor for Lake and Mendocino counties, and Cindy Kron, North Coast integrated pest management advisor for Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake counties, will present information on the pest.
