California pesticide data from 2016 available; sulfur tops list

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) recently released pesticide use data for 2016. Compared to 2015, pounds of active ingredients (AIs) decreased by 3 million (1.4 percent) while the area treated increased by 4.3 million (4.4 percent).

The AI with the highest total reported pounds was sulfur (48,664,569 pounds used). Almonds were No. 1 by pounds of active ingredients at 35,357,726 pounds on 21,764,838 acres, followed by winegrapes with 27,283,580 pounds on 10,436,498 acres.
