Florida Farm Bill sessions postponed

Two Farm Bill listening sessions in Florida have been postponed, with U.S. House members in Washington, D.C., to decide on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s  replacement.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced the Oct. 9 and Oct. 13 listening sessions have been postponed “due to unforeseen and unprecedented circumstances.”

Florida Department of Agriculture FDACS logoWhile Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson did not say what those circumstances are, Reps. Scott Franklin and Kat Cammack, who were scheduled to attend the listening sessions, are not able to be there because they are in Washington, D.C. instead of their home districts.

According to The Apopka Voice, a spokesperson for Rep Cammack said the postponement was related to a cancelled U.S. House recess related to the actions to avert a government showdown. That was followed by McCarthy’s ouster, and representatives are scheduled to begin the process of choosing a new Speaker of the House.
