March 1 apple holdings down from last year

According to the U.S. Apple Association, fresh apple holdings on March 1 totaled 61.9 million bushels, 22 percent lower than the March 1, 2015, holdings of 79.1 million bushels and 1 percent below the five-year average of 62.6 million bushels.

Total processing apple holdings as of March 1 were 26.3 million bushels, 12 percent below last year and 2 percent above the five-year average.

The total number of apples in storage on March 1 was 88.2 million bushels, 19 percent below the March 2015 record of 109 million bushels.
