Heitkamp, Davis headline United Fresh Washington event

U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Rep.Rodney Davis (R-IL) will speak on produce industry issues at the annual United Fresh Washington Conference, Sept. 24-26 in Washington, D.C.

During their keynote addresses, Senator Heitkamp and Representative Davis will offer an overview of what Congress will be working on during the remainder of the year and how they can reach across party lines to be effective leaders.

A member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, Sen. Heitkamp has been instrumental in developing the Senate version of the 2018 Farm Bill. She also is in one of the most closely-watched Senate races in the nation, as she seeks re-election in North Dakota this November.

Rep. Davis has been on the forefront of the House version of the 2018 Farm Bill as he serves on the House Agricultural Committee and is co-chair of the House Agriculture Research Caucus and the House Main Street Caucus. He is chair of the Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research and vice chair of the Committee on House Administration.

“This is a special opportunity for our attendees to hear from two members of Congress who have the agricultural track record that Senator Heitkamp and Rep. Davis do,” says United Fresh President & CEO Tom Stenzel. “We’re thrilled to hear the insider perspectives of two highly respected Congress members who are so firmly entrenched in the key issues surrounding the produce industry.”

Senator Heitkamp is the first female Senator elected from North Dakota and has served since 2013. She strongly advocates for North Dakota’s farmers and ranchers to make sure they get the resources and support they need to continue to feed North Dakota, the country, and the world. She also serves on the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Representative Davis serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Committee on House Administration. He serves as the Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research and is Vice Chair of the Committee on House Administration. He’s established himself as an effective lawmaker who is able to work with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation.

Registration for the United Fresh Washington Conference includes access to these keynote presentations. Join hundreds of produce leaders from all sectors of the industry for education on critical industry issues such as immigration, trade, tax reform and nutrition at this year’s event. Attendees also will take part in two days of meetings with members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill, as well as top regulatory officials.
