Pomesters Name Fruitman of the Year

The Michigan Association of Pomesters recently held its annual meeting and announced its Fruitman of the Year award. This year’s winner was Harold Thome.

Harold is now semi-retired but still works with high-density growing systems and still comes up with new varieties. He also enjoys working on antique tractors and is an active member of the Greasy Finger Two Cylinder Club.

“The fruit industry is in my blood and it will stay that way until the day they plant me,” Thome said, with his son Steve at his side, who has taken over the orchard business.

“My advice to other growers out there is to get out and be involved with the industry,” Thome said. “See what other growers are doing locally and all over the world.”
