California winegrape supporter dies

Duane M. Jungeblut, 89, of Lodi, passed away on Feb. 15, 2017. He was born in Lodi, on July 21, 1927, to Calvin and Angelina Jungeblut.

Jungeblut worked as a grape, almond and peach farmer for all of his life. He was a big advocate for protecting agriculture in this area serving on the San Joaquin County Planning Commission. He was involved in the following organizations: California Association of Winegrape Growers, Lodi-Woodbridge Winegrape Commission, and served as president of the Lodi District Grape Growers Association. Jungeblut served in the United States Army and is a member of the Lodi American Legion. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Sandra (Pat) Hale; sons, Duane, Jr., Brian (Debbie); grandchildren; Chris Hale, Brian, Jr., and Brandon; great-grandson, Elijah; sister, Jurine Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin; sisters, Marie Thompson and Arleen McCaffrey.

A chapel service was held on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 1pm at Lodi Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any charity in Jungeblut’s name. A guest book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com.
