Les Jardins de l’Île gets $100K government loan for expansion

The Government of Canada recently announced a $100,000 repayable contribution to Les Jardins de l’Île, a Quebec farm growing raspberries, beans, squash, asparagus as well as medicinal plants such as wheatgrass and sprouting alfalfa.

The funding, allocated under CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program, will enable Les Jardins de I’lle to finish an expansion project.

Founded in 2004, Jardins de l’Île is a limited liability company. All its products are certified organic by ECOCERT. Les Jardins de l’Île employs four people in Duhamel-Ouest.

With a total investment of $447,400, the company’s expansion project will add agri-food processing of vegetables. CED assistance will be used for the construction of a building, and the acquisition and installation of processing equipment, including a scale, steamers, a cold room, a built-in freezer and a packaging machine. The project should create three jobs in the near future.

The Government of Canada’s repayable contribution – and contributions to two other ag-related companies in Quebec – were announced by Stéphane Lauzon, Member of Parliament for Argenteuil–La Petite-Nation and Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Persons with Disabilities, on behalf of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, the Honourable Navdeep Bains.

“I am delighted with the financial assistance being provided by the Government of Canada, which is focused on building on the expansion of these businesses in the Témiscamingue RCM that figure prominently in an ever‑changing market,” Lauzon said. “Their expertise, drive and determination are a vehicle for growth, and I encourage them to continue on that path.”
