Sunflower bio-based Beloukha herbicide approved for ag use

Belchim Crop Protection USA’s (Belchim USA) Beloukha, a new biodegradable herbicide, has received approval for EPA registration, and has been submitted to all states for registration across the United States.

Beloukha is a sunflower bio-based, non-selective, broad-spectrum, foliar-applied herbicide that acts exclusively by contact, attacking and destroying the cell membranes of the plant epidermis causing rapid tissue dehydration. Made up of 51.98% pelargonic acid, a naturally occurring substance sourced from sunflowers that breaks down into carbon dioxide and water, Beloukha provides burndown of both annual and perennial broadleaf and grass weeds, plus most mosses and other cryptogams.

Approved for and proven effective for both burndown and sucker control for high value crops, such as grape vines, fruit and nut trees, hops, barley and oats, Beloukha is a valuable, fast-acting crop protection solution that growers can use for multiple purposes.

“We hear that growers are looking more and more for ‘natural’ products that work – even if their farms are not organic,” said Tom Wood, general manager of Belchim USA. “When our customers see that Beloukha has a visible effect within hours, leaves no residual and doesn’t have an offensive smell, they couldn’t be more impressed. We’re excited to be able to provide this bio-based solution to the agriculture industry.”

Currently, at least 36 states have registered Beloukha. For additional information, including the official label, visit the Belchim USA website, www.belchimusa.com.
