Michigan Horticultural Society to auction tractor at GLEXPO

The Michigan State Horticultural Society (MSHS) will auction a 1956 International Harvester Cub during the 2019 Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable & Farm Market EXPO, Dec. 10-12. Proceeds from the auction will go toward the society’s Trust Fund.

Harold Thome of Thome Orchards in Comstock Park, Michigan, donated the tractor to MSHS in July in memory of his friend Bill Braman, a longtime member of the Michigan fruit industry.

“I’m encouraging anybody that’s got something they would like to donate to the benefit of the hort society, to do so,” Thome said.

At the MSHS booth, attendees will be able to view the tractor and register online to place a bid. The hort society will share a link online so anyone not in attendance can participate in the auction.

“I think somebody could have a real good time with that tractor, even with the kids to climb on in a store,” Thome said.

The hort society is open to any donations that can help raise funds for the Trust Fund.

“We’ll take anything – land, houses, whatever folks are wanting to donate,” said Ben Smith, MSHS executive secretary. “We can talk to them about the tax implications and help them through planning.”

The auction will run from Dec. 10-12. For more information, contact Ben Smith via email at [email protected].
