Winery, MSU Extension to discuss effective canopy and crop load management

According to a new statewide study conducted by John Dunham, the wine and grape industry in Michigan contributes $5.4 billion to the state’s economy. In the state of Michigan, northwest Michigan has the highest concentration of winegrapes, and due to climate condition in some years, grape growers and winemakers are facing some challenges.

Parallel 45 Vines & Wines and Michigan State University Extension will hold an in-person meeting on July 9, from 3-5 p.m. at one of the Mawby vineyards at 755 North Sylt Road, Lake Leelanau, Michigan 49653.

Larry Mawby will share his experience and knowledge about the most effective canopy and crop load management strategies in the various climatic seasons for improving the quality of grapes for sparkling wine production.

No registration is necessary and two Michigan Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) applicator recertification credits for private and commercial will be available for this meeting.
