North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension will hold a commercial tree fruit Extension meeting on March 6 in Henderson County, North Carolina.
NC State Extension’s Mike Parker and Tom Kon are scheduled to lead an informal, in-orchard discussion and demonstration on apple tree pruning, training and lateral branch induction during orchard establishment.
This discussion will be directed at members of the commercial apple industry. While strategies discussed may possess utility across multiple orchard production systems, the meeting will occur in a recently planted high-density orchard, according to the release.
Parker is a tree fruit specialist researching cultural management strategies, rootstock performance in the Southeast, peach thinning, planting systems and orchard floor management.
Kon is an associate professor, Southeastern apple research specialist in NC State University’s horticultural science department.
The event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Richmind Co. & Staton Farms, 1791 Upward Rd.,
Flat Rock, North Carolina.
