Application deadline nears for scholarships to be given at GLEXPO

The Michigan State Horticultural Society is again offering $1,500 scholarships to second-year and above undergraduate or graduate students who are planning to pursue a career in the Midwest fruit industry.

The scholarships are made possible with the support of several sponsors and will be awarded at the Great Lakes Expo Banquet on Dec. 5.

In 2017, there were seven fruit scholarships awarded.

The following companies sponsored both the fruit and vegetable scholarships:

All Fresh GPS LLC, Bernie Swindeman Memorial, Breckenridge Insurance, Crop Production Services (Nutrien Ag), Gerber Products Company/Nestle Infant Nutrition, Great American Media Services (Fruit Grower News and Vegetable Grower News), MACMA Processing Apple Growers Division, Meister Media Worldwide (American Fruit Grower and American Vegetable Grower), Syngenta, Valent, and Wilbur-Ellis.
