Dec 2, 2015Cider association seeks research proposals
The U.S. Association of Cider Makers (USACM) has announced a call for research proposals for 2016.
The USACM-funded Grant Program was developed after CiderCON attendees were surveyed about their interest in having more research conducted in the cider industry. Ninety percent of respondents requested additional research from university scientists and 91 percent were willing to participate in on-site research. These results show that there is a great need for research from many different disciplines, including horticulture and related plant sciences, food science, agricultural engineering and agricultural economics, to work with cider apple growers and cider producers to support this rapidly expanding industry.
USACM has set aside $50,000 for the 2016 funding cycle. The funds will be distributed to as many projects as possible. USACM seeks to support innovative research projects under three major subject areas: apple and pear production (including breeding, nursery production and orchard production); cellar activities (including fruit processing, fermentation, filtration, bottling/canning/kegging); economics and marketing.
