Accomplishments

Dr. Chris Gottschalk is a research geneticist at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station, USDA ARS, in Kearneysville, West Virginia. His research mission is to utilize genetics, genomics and biotechnology to breed new pome fruit (apple and pear) varieties that address challenges related to climate resiliency, production efficiency, consumer appeal and disease resistance. He received a Ph.D. in plant breeding, genetics and biotechnology-horticulture and a bachelor’s degree in plant biology from Michigan State University.
